Kofta (kofteh)

Kofteh (kofta) Tabrizi is a very delicious, precious and nutritious traditional food in Azerbaijan of Iran. It is a meatball like (a huge one of course) with meat and split peas as the main ingredients, so is a good source of protein.


  • 2/3 Cup Split yellow peas
  • 1/2 lb Ground Beef
  • 1/2 bunch: Savory, Leek Chives & a pinch of dried oregano or mint
  • 1/3 Cup Rice
  • 1 big onion
  • A pinch of turmeric, salt, ground pepper, saffron

Azeri Abgoosht  (Dizi)

Abgoosht  is a Azeri and turkish food. It is also called Dizi (in fars area) , which refers to the traditional stone crocks it is served in.

Abgoosht is usually made with lamb, chickpeas, white beans, onion, potatoes, and tomatoes, turmeric, and dried lime. Other variations exist in the beans used, such as kidney beans and black-eyed peas.
The ingredients are combined together and cooked until done, at which point the dish is strained.

this food is generally served as a tradition when the new born of the family got his/her first teeth, the parents take this dish to the relatives as a sign of their child’s aging. how ever this tradition is now changed and the food is being served in daily life too.
